The development of a new shopping mall in Manchester, England, has led to concern in nearby towns where retailers fear a loss of trade. Town centers need to be managed like malls, with collaboration between local government and retailers. This collabration has occurred in Sheffield, England, where the city center has seen a growth in trade. Manchester is already developing its city center where funds have been invested following a terrorist explosion in 1996.

Magyar malls: Hungarian retailing
Article Abstract:
Hungarians are enamored of their new malls in Budapest, Duna Plaza and Polus Centre. Complete with such amenities as ice rinks, multiplex theatres and bowling alleys, Hungarian consumers are spending time at the new malls even if the devalued forint does not go to far to purchase goods sold there.

Shopping malls are very popular in Asia but especially in the Philippines, where the largest mall in Asia is located in Manila. It is believed that the underground economy in the Philippines is contributing to 20% growth in retail sales, though the official economy is growing only about 7%.
