Telefonica chairman, Juan Villalonga, is focusing on company's expansion in Latin America, despite a drop in profit from that market for the first three quarters of 1998. He has decided that Telefonica's name should no longer include 'de Espana'. He sees Latin America as having strong growth prospects, though there are risks, such as a possible Brazilian currency devaluation.

Article Abstract:
A mobile telephone system known as 'telepoint' was launched in Britain by a group of telephone companies hoping to capitalize on the lack of adequate mobile communications services there. The concept was an enormous failure, costing its investors millions.
