Article Abstract:
The most impressive sectoral growth within the German market for fast food was showed by the pizza sector at 116.5% between 1993 and 1997. The pizza sector realized the largest growth in both outlet number and sales turnover, with convenience identified as the major factor that bolstered its popularity. The burger sector achieved the second highest sectoral growth rate, although it still faces stiff competition from other fast food sectors and snack categories. The desert sector managed to post good growth in terms of both outlet number and turnover, despite a difficulty by several international chains in penetrating the German market.
