The changing consumer in Finland

Article Abstract:

The economic depression in Finland between 1991-1994 significantly affected consumer behavior and the consumption pattern in the country. Unemployment rate during the depression years was reported at 17.7%. The banking crisis led to tight financial markets, increased real interest rates and high taxes, which cut down consumption expenditures. Consumers were constrained to spend, spending only on food and other necessary items. However, with the joining of Finland in the European Union, consumers are now more open to spending.

Italian footwear company Salvatore Ferragamo SpA has branched out into the fragrance market with the launching of Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Femme. The launch was conducted through a global print campaign that was handled by ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty of London, UK. The fashion house, which is 100% family-owned, is also stepping into men's fragrance, toiletries, spectacles and sunglasses.
