The shine fades on Museveni's Uganda
Article Abstract:
Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, faces a number of problems including involvement in war in Congo, attacks by rebels on tourists, and explosions in Uganda's capital, Kampala. Some 20 bombs have exploded in Kampala in the two years to May 1999. Uganda is also faced with an economic slowdown, and there is concern about the cost of wars. There have been corruption scandals affecting both public and private sectors. There is also pressure for more democracy in Uganda, and a referendum is scheduled for 2000 on whether multi-party politics should be allowed.
