Twist in Korean TV ad sales war
Article Abstract:
State-owned Munhwa Broadcasting Co (MBC) of South Korea has sued KOBACO, the government agency that sets advertising rates and acts as the exclusive sales agent for all the commercial networks, for lost advertising sales worth 4 billion won. The feud between the two sides started when MBC criticized KOBACO's 20-year monopoly, with MBC arguing that it be allowed to set its own advertising rates. KOBACO retaliated by suspending sales of MBC airtime, which was a severe blow since it came before the Lunar New Year holiday.
