UM: unit au Mexique avec Grupo Met-Ref
Article Abstract:
Union Mini re (UM) and Grupo Met-Ref (GMR) are to create a 50:50 jointly held company named Unimet to be based at Monterrey, Mexico. The company will be active in the development of high quality zinc products, destined for general galvanisation and casting under pressure. Unimet will produce zinc alloy under the brandname Overcor, a brand belonging to UM, destined mainly for the automobile industry. Production should begin in October 1998. The operation will be managed by UM Zinc, a business unit of UM, and Metals Refinados, a subsidiary of GMR. The price of the investment has not been revealed, however UM emphasised that the operation is strategically rather than financially valuable. The Central American and Mexican markets in this sector are progressing rapidly according to UM. The firm would like to develop its American presence.

The new Belgian multimedia company, Win, which will offer services such as Internet access supply and value-added applications, will be operational by mid-November 1998. Investments in the company over a five year period will total BFr 1.6bn, and it is expected to break even in 2003. Win is held by Belgacom at 49%, 13% by both SRIW and Sofina, at 6% by CNP, the rest of the capital is detained equally by Cr dit Commercial and the SMAP. Alcatel-Ecta , IBM, Ciger and Belsign are among Win's industrial partners. Win will be set up with a capital stock of BFr 900mn.
