Unilever integrates, Elwood leaves

Peter Elwood has resigned as president of Thomas J Lipton Inc after the company was integrated with Lever Pond's and Good Humor-Breyers into a new company called Unilever Canada. Elwood would join the Queen's School of Business in Kingston, Ontario, as its visiting executive in residence while continuing to do some work for Unilever. The company intends to eliminate as many as 400 brands from its current portfolio of 1,200 brands and 25,000 jobs from its global workforce.

Sears refocuses on customers

Sears Canada is making some changes in its brand image through its advertising campaign. This includes some modifications in its tag line 'The many sides of Sears' which is now 'For the many sides of you.' The Toronto, Canada-based retailer desires to move away from a statement about the firm to one that demonstrates how Sears can benefit its customers. The advertising campaign was developed by TBWA Chiat/Day in Toronto.

Unilever trims agency roster
Article Abstract:
Unilever Canada has reduced the number of advertising agencies for its Liption division from five to three. Oglivy and Mather will be the new agency handling spreads and other cooking products. Amirati Puris Lintas will still handle the culinary brands, while J. Walter Thompson retains tea brands. Unilever is also consolidating its media buying and planning with Harrison Young Pesonen and Newell.
