Wobbly peso may help handful of Philippine companies
Article Abstract:
The peso devaluation benefits only a number of Philippine companies that derive their revenues from the US dollar. These companies include the Philippine Long Distance Company, Manila Electric Company, among others. But, most companies operating with dollar-denominated debts will be hurted most. Nevertheless, economists are hopeful that the situation is far from reaching a Thailand's case. They expect a controlled inflation and interest rates to make the economy alive.

Mystery still shrouds books: region's governments, firms fail to heed lessons of currency crisis
Article Abstract:
Asian firms and governments are reluctant to reform their disclosure practices. The move threatens the success of badly needed economic reform programs. Analysts maintain that shady practices keep investors at bay as investors remain reluctant to put their money in firms that do not tell them what they are doing with their finances. The transparency ratings of Asian banks remain some of the worst in the world.
