A comparison of factor analytic methods of obtaining cardiovascular autonomic components for the assessment of mental workload
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the validity of the autonomic space model of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in diagnosing heart rate for mental workload. The subjects were given a mental arithmetic task which was controlled by a computer. Results showed that different autonomic modes of control were found for divided attention and uncoupled sympathetic activation was found for divided attention when the arithmetic tasks were added.

Multimodal feedback for the acquisition of small targets
Article Abstract:
The multimodal feedback that assists small-target acquisition in graphical user interfaces is examined. The result shows that for small, discretely located targets, all feedback modes reduce targeting times, with stickiness providing substantial improvements and combination of stickiness and tactile appearing to be particularly efficient and appealing.

Multimodal feedback: an assessment of performance and mental workload
Article Abstract:
A multimodal interface using auditory, haptic and visual feedback in a direct manipulation task is investigated to establish new recommendations for multimodal feedback in uni-, bi- and trimodal feedback. The findings indicate that certain types of bimodal feedback can enhance performance while lowering self-perceived mental demand.
