Bioinformatics attracts big guns
Article Abstract:
The new Bioinformatics computing service called Vital-It based at the Swiss Bioinformatics Institute is equipped with a 72-processor cluster based on Intel's new Itanium-2 central processing unit. The service analyze new genomic and protein data generated by researchers at three Universities of Lausanne, Geneva and Basel and offer computing services to academics throughout Europe.

Erbitux diagnostic latest adjunct to cancer therapy
Article Abstract:
ImClone's (New York) chimeric antibody Erbitux (cetuximab) has obtained the United States marketing clearance as a treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer on February 12, 2004. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is the link between the newly approved antibody and diagnostics and the significance of identifying biomarkers before administering the drug are discussed.
