Functional proteomic screens reveal an essential extracellular role for hsp90alpha in cancer cells invasiveness
Article Abstract:
The two functional screens for proteins required for the invasion of fibrosarcoma cells that identified the molecular chaperone heat shock protein 90 (hsp90) are described. The matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2) activity and invasiveness are decreased with the inhibition of extracellular hsp90alpha and this indicates that cell-impermeant anti-hsp90 drugs might decrease invasiveness without the concerns inherent in inhibiting intracellular hsp90.

Engineering sweet targets for magic bullets
Article Abstract:
A chemical engineering approach for detecting specific monosaccharides on glyeans (oligosaccharide chains) in mice is described. Glycans on glycoproteins, glycolipids and proteoglycans are prominent at the surface of cells and are also found within cells and extracellular matrices.
