OA Systems Compatibility (The New Solutions in Hardware and Software)
Article Abstract:
Integrated automated office systems communicate in a user-friendly environment within their product lines. Data General's CEO, IBM's PROFS, Digital Equipment's ALL-IN-1, and Wang's OFFICE are examples of sophisticated office-management software-system requirements, and a brief review of each is included. A system of standards is required to insure compatibility. Major vendors now provide file transfer and translation, but generally within a particular vendor's product line. Typical configurations of DEC's Systems Architecture and IBM's PROFS are displayed. The intergration of different systems should be considered in the selection of new products.
