The Navy Laboratories Technical Office Automation and Communications System (Naltoacs) is seeking to increase productivity in the nine Navy research and development facilities through office automation. Kurt Stabenau, program manager, is working to integrate the systems within and between the labs by establishing comprehensive standards and protocol. Pilot programs will test applications over the next three years. The Bureau of Standards has established the Microcomputer Electronic Information Exchange, and the White House is expanding the Executive Office Data Link. Computer Systems Management has developed a video conferencing system for the military.

The Prudential Insurance Company headquarters in Westlake, California, employing 1200 people, has won first place in the 'Office of the Year' contest with its 370,000 square-foot facility. A three-story central atrium, louvered skylights and minimal partitioning create a feeling of openness and community. The latest in technology and furnishings are provided by Wang and IBM word processors, GTE telephone system, multi-vendor facsimile systems, Knoll-designed desks, and Bell and Howell Mail-mobiles.

The Milliken Research Complex in Spartanburg, South Carolina, now has a fully automated customer center. The Milliken Customer Center is geared for the senior executive customers. The theater room uses forty-two computer-controlled slide projectors and a life- size rear-screen video projector.
