House will meet high energy standards and still cost less

Article Abstract:

AFM is one of several companies currently building an energy saving-demonstration house at Springfield, OR. The 1,200 sq ft house will cost $90,000 to build, $1,000 less than conventional houses. The stressed-skin insulating core-panel of the house will optimise thermal, structural and cost performance, according to GZ Brown, professor at University of Oregon. Other firms involved in construction are DEC International, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Simpson Strong-Tie, Viscor, Super-Struct Building Systems, Stimson Lumber, and Studor International.

The Iacobucci Organization in Havertown, PA, has developed Bridgewater community out of a former unsightly industrial area in Delaware County, PA. The builder company transformed the unattractive site into a beautiful housing community through creative landscaping, fencing and signage. The make-over was so successful that the company beat any other local builder in the 1992 sales. This community has 107 townhome units and 85 detached single-family homes with price ranges from $98,900 to $103,900 and from $135,400 to $184,800, respectively.
