QVC's 'Titanic' video promotion makes waves

QVC, a West Chester, PA-based shopping channel, reports that over 100,000 movie video cassette of the "Titanic" have been sold in less than a month since its debut. The Titanic video cassette, which is a joint venture between Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox Licensing, was launched on the channel on June 15, 1998 in an hour-long format hosted by Steve Bryant. The cassette is sold for $19.95. QVC continued to take advantage of the Titanic wave by showcasing officially-licensed "Titanic" The Motion Picture merchandise. QVC claims that Titanic's record sales are due to the movie's phenomenal success and that QVC is offering unique merchandise in a timely manner and in a direct response format.

Bride-Direct points DM arrows at engaged couples

Retail Trade Services Inc. (RTS), based in Fort Lee, NJ, has rolled out a direct marketing program, called Bride-Direct, that aims to help companies reach newly engaged couples who are about to purchase specific products and services. The program, which includes direct mail, telemarketing and sweepstakes, will be the vehicle for RTS to come up with information on purchases. RTS will them speak to Fortune 100 brands, letting them know that they have a core group of customers that matches the firms' demographic and has interest in the firms' products or services. AT&T and Prudential Insurance are among the firms participating in Bride-Direct.
