A review of the UK market for insecticides and household fresheners reveals that the market grew by 54% during the period 1992-1996. The value of household freshener sales rose by 67% in that four year period to 159 million pounds sterling, whilst the value of household insecticide sales remained constant at around 24 million pounds sterling. Producers may find growth difficult to sustain, as the dominant growth factor was the development of slow release air fresheners. External factors, including the growth of extraction and waste disposal units, may also detract from the market.

The UK market for household fresheners and insecticides reached a value of 148 million pounds sterling in 1994, and is predicted to rise by a further 15% in 1995. The household fresheners sector expanded by 60% in the period 1990-1994, reaching 125 million pounds sterling, with the sector being particularly boosted by the launch of slow release products. The market for insecticide products has also seen a move towards slow release varieties.
