The Safeway of the City
Article Abstract:
Citicorp is solidifying a purchase agreement for a large share of Britain's Vickers da Costa, a medium-sized stockbroker. Citicorp is primarily interested in the overseas side of Vickers. To close the transaction, Citicorp must receive regulatory approval from the United States, Great Britain, and Japan. The Japanese may pose a problem, since they still separate commercial banking from securities business. The multinational financial supermarkets are entering the British market now being shaped by deregulation.
