Trade in insurance in the Central-America Common Market
Article Abstract:
The insurance industry in the five member countries of the Central-America Common Market is examined. It is found that Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all have an insurance market that provides coverage for most domestic risks. They also claim to have achieved improvements in overall economy efficiency due to increased competition. However, the Central American insurance sector also has many weaknesses that need to be addressed. These include its overdependence on foreign reinsurance and the high costs and low quality of services.
