Article Abstract:
Those that will potentially benefit from medical research should play a greater part in the research process itself. As part of efforts to improve the research process in the UK, the National Health Service contends that research which reflects the views and needs of the public has a greater likelihood of producing results that improve practice in social and health care.

41% would like next exercise to be halted
Article Abstract:
Two fifths of academics would like to cancel the 2008 RAE despite years of intensive preparation for the event, according to a survey of over 1500 academics by the University and College Union (UCU). A similar number would like he exercise to go ahead but then be replaced after a major review of the assessment and funding of university research.
