Brit arts's foundation figure
Article Abstract:
Artist and Professor of Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, England, Michael Craig-Martin confirms he has been very pleased many of his former students have gone on to experience greater success than he has had, in the field of art. He acknowledges art collectors, such as Charles Saatchi, have encouraged the work of young artists. He supports the way Goldsmiths allows its students to experiment with all types of materials. Craig-Martin's past students include Damien Hirst, and Julian Opie. Craig-Martin has taught at Goldsmiths for 25 years, in addition to producing his own work.

BSE research in danger
Article Abstract:
Research into bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) is affected by privatization policies in the UK. This could affect funding for research at establishments such as the Institute of Animal Health, under the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, which is researching BSE at its Neuropathogenesis unit. The long-term nature of this research, and the need for expensive infrastructure make it especially vulnerable to disruption and funding changes arising from privatization.
