Council defiance endangers Unisa's funds
Article Abstract:
Because it has defied government orders regarding the appointment of a vice-chancellor, the University of South Africa (Unisa) may face court action and lose its subsidy. The disobedience could endanger Unisa's R40 million monthly allotment, according to education minister Kader Asmal. The row concerns the appointment of senior officials and the timing of a merger between the distance learning efforts of Unisa, Technikon South Africa, and Vista University.
