Do not bank on Bush or Kerry's election pledges
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the changing face of the higher education and university sector in the United States and the election pledges of President George W. Bush and presidential candidate John Kerry. It is contended that while Bush and Kerry may make promises that will please the universities, when the time comes to actually fulfil these promises, the realities of cost may force them to make compromises.

'When the Tories came out against the new fee regime they were castigated as opportunists. So why don't the Lib Dems face a comparable attack?'
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the Liberal Democrat Party's policy that, if elected, it would abolish university fees in England and Wales. It is argued that, rather than helping the lower classes, this policy is actually designed to attract middle class voters, as they are the only ones losing out under the current system.
