Europe right or wrong
Article Abstract:
The European Court of Human Rights has said that, although the UK government were right, on the grounds of national security, to issue injunctions to prevent newspapers publishing Peter Wright's Spycatcher in 1986, continued prohibition after the book became available overseas was no longer legal because national security interests were no longer relevant. They were applying article 10 of the 1950 European Convention that states that everyone has the right to freedom of expression. There has since been pressure for such legislation to be incorporated into a British Bill of Rights, and more and more members of parliament are beginning to support the idea.

What's wrong with gongs?
Article Abstract:
Britain's honours system has existed for 1,000 years, and up to 1,000 people are given honours twice annually. The highest award is a peerage, the hereditary honour which was revived by Mrs Thatcher in 1983. John Major has committed himself to review the system, many criticize the hereditary aspect of the awards. There is also criticism that daughters cannot, in some cases, succeed to the title when the recipient dies. Some feel honours are given as rewards for supporting a particular political party.

The market moralist
Article Abstract:
Friedrich Hayek's economic theories were used by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the 1980's to make great changes in the UK economy. Hayek's theory was that the state should not attempt to control resources. If this happened then freedom and prosperity would be in danger. Hayek's economic philosophy was called monetarism. He also had views on government and proposed a 'Model Constitution.'
