Free hand that draws inspiration from peers: a Cologne design course where no one tells students what to do is a teaching model
Article Abstract:
The Cologne Design School of the University of Applied Sciences Cologne is a model department. Running for eight semesters, the project-centered course has no foundation year, no syllabus, and no grading. The school, which encourages risk-taking among its students, began with 50 students during its inaugural year and now has nearly 320, while of 1,300 applicants only 60-80 are accepted yearly.
