Article Abstract:
While the variety of courses available for academics in the UK is valuable as they provide everybody with equal access to the information and advice they need, they are no replacement for a period of "apprenticeship" with a senior colleague. The problem that the "apprenticeship" system has is that it is very demanding on the time and limited resources of the senior academic.
