Sort out casuals problem, says UCU

The University and Colleges Union (UCU) has warned that universities must shift casual staff to permanent contracts if they hope to avoid tribunal cases. EU regulations governing fixed-term contracts have come into effect and state that staff on fixed-term contracts for four years or longer should become permanent unless a university can 'objectively justify' continued use of fixed-term contracts.

Party still anti-fees despite tax shift
Article Abstract:
Liberal Democrats have claimed, at their annual conference in Brighton, that their new tax policies will not jeopardise their top-up fees opposition. At the conference, Liberal Democrats voted to abandon their commitment to a 50p tax rate for high earners and this has raised questions over whether the party would be able to find the GBP 1.2 billion required to abolish tuition fees.
