Expatriat Canadian academics and foreign academics are flooding into Canada as a result of generous research funding and a welcoming attitude towards foreigners. Many US-born applicants for jobs in Canada note the anti-Bush factor as a reason for leaving the US, stating that the more liberal political climate in Canada is more welcoming for researchers.

While Canada has the world's ninth-largest economy, its universities rank sixth in the world in terms of research papers published - 370,692 in all fields - and, with 3,827,379 citations, they also ranked sixth in the number of times they were cited.
