Queering the pitch: campaigns for the acceptance of gay rights ironically accomplish exactly what homophobia aims to achieve - the elimination of gays, argues Leo Bersani
Article Abstract:
Although universities throughout the US research, deconstruct and reconfigure every aspect of gay and lesbian life, activity in the UK is more subdued. Leo Bersani, a professor of French at Berkeley University, California claims that gays should be more militant in his new book, Homos. He feels that although it is right to support gays in the forces or priesthoods who are persecuted for being gay, but believes those gays should be convinced that those institutions are inherently oppressive.

Off-the-self sociology
Article Abstract:
Amitai Etzioni is a sociology professor from Georgtown University in Washington DC, who has coined the term 'communitarianism'. He stresses the notions of responsiblity and duty as opposed to an emphasis on the rights of the individual. He is concerned over the impact of women working on the family and on children who receive worse care. He argues that men and women should be encouraged to be parents, and that societies should find a balance between too much freedom and too much control.
