So you wanna be a rock 'n' roll star?
Article Abstract:
Some 200 music bands entered the first National Student Music Awards competition, with the three finalists due to make a final performance in front of a panel of judges and an audience of 4,000 people in Feb 2000. Some observers suggest students should not consider taking popular music courses at university in order to become famous. The awards were set up by Arts and Music Undergraduate Chris Jenkins who felt student bands needed a chance to display their talents. Mudhut Records have supported the awards. The winning band will get the chance to record a CD.

Dangerous liaisons
Article Abstract:
The safety of student research expeditions is questioned in the light of an incident involving the Tagaeri tribe in the Amazonian rainforest of Ecuador. One of a group of London students was approached by three tribesmen and stabbed in the thigh as a warning to leave the area. The same tribe had murdered the Bishop of Coca and Sister Ines Arango in 1987, when they met to discuss the possibility of the Tagaeri leaving the area.
