Students could sue over lack of support

Students with mental health problems could sue their universities if staff fail to recognise their condition and ensure that they get the necessary support, according to a report commissioned by Eversheds, law firm. In the report, Neville Harris, professor of law at Manchester University, argues that universities have a legal duty of care to their students in teaching and also in pastoral care and welfare.

Students attack introduction of 'one-sided' contract of duties
Article Abstract:
Oxford University students are opposing college plans to introduce a contract which sets out what the university requires of them. The contract is intended to protect colleges from litigation by those fee-paying students who feel their tuition and courses are not meeting expectations.
