An analysis of the difficulties faced by historians investigating the history of homosexuality in the UK in the decade after the First World War. The case of an American academic who was attacked in London in August 1929 and the subsequent arrest and trial of his attacker is used to demonstrate how individual cases can provide historians with valuable insights.

A city choked by its own history

Liverpool University is to launch its new Cancer Research Centre. Liverpool has a lung cancer rate twice the national average and the centre aims to help tackle the problem locally. The centre will also help coordinate an Europe-wide research project that will attempt to identify genetic markers that could help in the early detection of lung cancer.

An analysis of the role academics have been playing in the preparation of films such as "Troy" and Oliver Stone's "Alexander".
