Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the creation of virtual learning environments (VLE) in colleges and universities are examined. It is argued that in order to create a VLE that benefits the university and its lecturers and students, flexibility is the key and that the imposition of a weakly supported or inappropriate VLE can result in students and lecturers becoming convinced that online learning is a waste of time.
