US staff fear drop in quality
Article Abstract:
Over 40% of academics in the United States believe that their students do not have even the basic skills needed for university-level work, according to a survey of 40,670 professors at 421 universities. The survey also revealed that staff feel that efforts to increase diversity at universities are diluting the quality of students.

Tutors in despair at illiterate freshers
Article Abstract:
A survey of staff from 16 Oxbridge, post-1992 and Russell Group institutions has found that undergraduates are entering university less literate, numerate and knowledgeable than ever before. The survey found that lecturers have to postpone courses in order to allow for remedial teaching.
