A paper published in January 2007 claimed that ordinary members of the academic unions were let down by incorrect strategies and bad planning in the 2006 pay dispute. A paper by Bob Carter revealed that the senior union officials were more concerned about maneuvering for power in the merger between the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education (Natfhe) and the Association of University Teachers.
