Global demand for DVD players in 2000 exceeds projections
Article Abstract:
Worldwide demand for DVD players is expected to reach 17 million units in 2000, more than twice the previous year. Two reasons cited for the strong demand of DVD players are falling prices and the increasing number of software titles. Cost reduction would become an important issue for DVD manufacturers as the market expands. Japanese manufacturers have responded to the issue by transferring DVD production from Japan to other Asian countries, such as Malaysia and China.

DVD players continue steady growth in global markets
Article Abstract:
The global sales of DVD-players are projected to reach 2.1 million units in 1998. Manufacturers are divided into two groups in their product development and marketing strategies. On one hand are those who focus on high-end products that incorporate a Dolby Digital AC-3 decoder, and are priced at $1,000 or more. On the other end are makers who sell popular models priced at around $500, targetting the wider middle market in the US.
