Matsushita steps up network equipment development

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd (Panasonic) plans to enter into alliances with US firms for the development of network connection equipment. The company is already in the process of developing home gateway systems that are capable of receiving data via telephone and cable lines and sending them through each room in the house. Panasonic, which is expected to develop hardware that will link such networks, intends to begin introducing the devices in mid-2000.
