Personal faxes find rising favor in Japan
Article Abstract:
As many as 25% of Japanese households own a fax machine, representing a sales volume of 2.6 million units in 1997. It is projected that sales would rise to almost 3 million units in 1998 and 3.3 million units in 1999. The fax machines are used to send visual data to friends, or to TV and radio stations. These machines use thermal recording and are equipped with cordless phones as satellite units. Japanese households rely mainly on the telephone capabilities of these units, followed by their copier functions, and lastly, for facsimile purposes.
