Recycling firm for rechargeable batteries
Article Abstract:
European rules are calling for a reduction in the number of batteries that end up being dumped in landfill sites. It is thought likely that the European Commission will start to set recycling rates for batteries in the near future. In preparation for this battery makers and producers of emergency lighting have formed a company that will collect and recycle rechargeable batteries. The company is called Rebat and it will be collecting and recycling batteries from power tools, emergency lighting and mobile communications. It is predicted that during 1998 that the UK will collect some 300 tonnes of batteries for recycling and that this will increase to 450 tonnes in 1999 and 600 tonnes in 2000.
