Sharp Corp's Liquid Crystal Digital ViewCam Slim digital camcorder, the VL-PD1, is among the first camcorders to feature a monitor panel that closes and opens. The Japanese company's engineers employed a chip-sized LSI, an innovative inner prism lens system and a thin mechanism in order to develop a compact camcorder with a thickness of 57mm. Including battery and tape, the 188mm X 98.5mm VL-PD1 camcorder weighs only 820g.

Sharp Corp is offering MD-MT832 and MD-MT831 MiniDisc (MD) players, which are among the thinnest and smallest products of their kind and can operate up to 26 hours on battery power. Using an advanced LSI, both the Y49,000 MD-MT832 and the Y46,000 MD-MT831 models employs a power-efficient pickup and mechanism for spinning the disc swiftly. Both products also boast of voice-activated recording capabilities.
