Cold lime softening is the most common gravity-clarification process in influent water systems, and gravity clarifiers are the usual cause of problems. Gravity clarifiers remove insoluble and organic contaminants from water, and various chemicals are used along the way. The whole cold lime softening process and its mechanisms are discussed.
