New kids in town
Article Abstract:
In the UK there are 182 town centre managers, twice as many as there were in 1994, with numbers set to rise. The threat to towns and cities by out of town shopping centres was the spur that led to town centre managers being appointed to co-ordinate the running of centres. Seventy-one per cent of stores within managed centres reported higher takings than those not managed, according to a report compiled for Boots the Chemist.

Planing for people: what can a women's network offer its members?
Article Abstract:
The East Midlands branch of the RTPI is forming a steering comittee to set up a network for women planners. This followed a conference on career development emphasising that more women are entering the planning profession, although many are concentrated in lower status jobs. Women view the network as an opportunity to learn new skills.
