Regenerating that neighbourhood feeling: Belfast's Shankill Road has more regeneration problems than most other inner city areas
Article Abstract:
Ways to regenerate Belfast's Shankill Road area have been discussed during a Community Planning Weekend, organised by the Greater Shankhill Partnership and John Thompson and Partners. The area's population is badly depleted mainly due to young families being moved to housing estates on the outskirts. There are plans to build the type of terraced housing preferred by the community, although an architect believes that courtyard style developments are safer for children to play in.

Millennium Commission urges villages to push bids
Article Abstract:
Schemes in rural areas received only 50 million pounds sterling in the first round of project funding, according to the Millennium Commission. This organisation is now calling on villages to submit bids, ensuring that the UK's rural population does not continue to be under-represented in the schemes which receive Millennium Commission funding. Guidance has now been published on how planners of smaller projects can apply for funding.
