Cruise visitor impressions of the environment of the Shannon-Erne Waterways system
Article Abstract:
A survey of the cruising experience in the interlinked-systems of Lough Erne, the Shannon-Erne Waterway, and the River Shannon in northwest Ireland revealed that cruisers see the area as unspoilt and of little environmental damage. Most of them think that additional infrastructure for leisure should be developed to enhance the recreational experience. However, careful management is needed in building these facilities as to preserve the physical environment which entails selective siting of areas for development and zonation of water sports such as speedboating and waterskiing.
