Effects of aging and exercise on nutrition needs of the elderly
Article Abstract:
Several studies have shown that progressive resistance training (PRT) has positive results for the elderly. PRT can help preserve critical muscle mass, prevent sarcopenia and metabolic rate decreases, improve insulin action, and increase bone density, metabolism, and overall physical activity levels. It may also aid in weight loss intervention. The studies, carried out on several age groups, indicate that it is not age, underlying fitness, or frailty that dictate strength and muscle gains but the stimulus intensity.

Mechanisms underlying the increased susceptibility of aged mice to tuberculosis
Article Abstract:
Older mice appear to be more susceptible to tuberculosis. This increased susceptibility is attributed to an age-associated modulation in immune capacity, which brings physiological changes in lymphocyte activation. These changes are evident in the migration, expression and function of these molecules. The notion of complete loss of resistance mechanisms following increased susceptibility to infection was rejected, as adaptations were observed.

The Pima Indians in Sonora, Mexico
Article Abstract:
The Pima Indians of Sonora, Mexico, differ from the Arizona Pimas in several ways. Although the two groups are related linguistically, the lifestyle of the Mexican Pimas is more traditional yet healthier than that of the Arizona Pimas. Mexican Pimas have a much lower rate of diabetes than Arizona Pimas. The Mexicans' vegetable-based low-fat diet, hard physical labor as well as fewer cases of obesity contribute to overall health.
