Jewish-American Dr Ruth Gruber helped to bring homeless refugee Jews from Italy to the US in 1944, and had herself witnessed the emergence of the Holocaust in pre-war Germany as a foreign correspondent. A television film portrayal of her experiences and those of the refugees after reaching the US has been produced.

A case of arsenic poisoning of church members at Gustaf Adolph Evangelical Lutheran Church in New England is reported. The lives of the victims after the tragedy, which remains unresolved, and the possible prognosis due to the intake of topkiller arsenic used in potato farms are described.
