Cockpit video recorders: controversy in the air
Article Abstract:
A proposal that video cameras monitor the actions of pilots in commercial airplanes has caused controversy in the airline industry, industry organizations and government agencies involved in transportation safety. Government investigators say that video recorders could provide definite proof whether a crash was caused by pilot error or system malfunction. The Air Line Pilots Assn say they want cameras focused only on instruments while the National Transportation Safety Board considers any recording as highly confidential.

Bigger monitors, smarter users mean console design changes
Article Abstract:
Winsted Corp's marketing manager, Randy Smith, stresses that the demand for larger monitors in CCTV systems is fueling changes in console designs as end users become more knowledgeable about ergonomics. This trend prompted the Minneapolis, MN-based company to design a 40-in wide bay console and a desk to accommodate flat screens. Winsted's new Command Center console is engineered to accommodate the big monitors or LCDs required in control rooms today.
