High tech goes public
Article Abstract:
When Proposition 211 was passed, a small group of Silicon Valley, executives formed an organization to oppose its enactment, which would have made shareholder lawsuits easier to file and win in California. The success of the anti-Proposition 211 campaign pushed these executives to transform their newly found political clout into a long-term influence. Although burdened with some internal problems and personality differences, the group has the potential to turn high tech industry into one of the fastest growing sectors of the state economy.

Fear of falling
Article Abstract:
The middle class, which once formed the backbone of the American economy, is facing deep financial crisis despite a boom in the country's economy. This is due to a growing gap in income distribution since the 1970s, with 5% of people pocketing a 21% share of the income. Real-wages, especially of low-skilled and high school educated workers, have been regularly falling since 1976 despite some improvement in June 1996. The influx of immigrants has further complicated matters.
