Selling a cheaper mousetrap: Wal-Mart's effect on retail prices
Article Abstract:
The effect of Wal-Mart entry on average city-level prices of various consumer goods is considered by exploiting variation in the timing of store entry. Robust price effects were found for several products including shampoo, toothpaste, and laundry detergent, magnitudes vary by product and specification, but generally range from 1.5%-3% in the short run to four times as much in the long run.

The commuting time paradox
Article Abstract:
The conditions for the 'commuting time paradox' stating that the average commuting time does not vary between different periods are examined using an equilibrium job search model with endogenously chosen commuting costs. Increase in productivity levels over time leads to increase in average commuting costs and average wage costs affecting the optimally chosen commuting time.
