Where does gun control go next?
Article Abstract:
The California Legislature has shown itself to be strongly in favour of reducing gun-related violence. However, Governor Gray Davis has now stated that he will not sign any more gun control bills in 2000. He wishes to allow law enforcement time to come to terms with the gun control legislation introduced in 1999. If Davis remains committed to this approach, it seems unlikely that California will remain the pioneer in seeking to reduce gun deaths. However, some legislators are determined to pursue gun control, despite the stance adopted by Davis.

Article Abstract:
It is not right to ban guns, apart from in a very small number of circumstances, according to Dr Garen J. Wintemute of the University of California Davis School of Medicine. He states that he is not opposed to guns. However, he feels that guns should be made safer to prevent fatal accidents. He also believes that access to guns should be made as hard as possible for the perpetrators of intentional fatalities. He suggests that gun violence should be regarded as a public health problem.
